Who is Fathom?

My name is Lorraine, and I am the farmer florist behind Fathom Farm. I began dreaming about orienting my life toward flowers while commercial fishing with my partner in Southeast Alaska in the summer, and working in restaurants in the winter. Although I loved my time at sea and in hospitality, the soil and everything that grows out of it has always had my heart.

Several years and a pregnancy later, the groundwork was laid for an experimental first season. How many flowers can actually be grown on an urban corner lot in Bellingham, Washington? A great many, it turns out. The flower farm has grown much since that first season in 2023, and I’m excited to learn another new skill: farmer-floristry with a toddler underfoot! My son will experience the magic of flowers for the first time this season, and it will be a beautiful treat to observe.

Ultimately, the ethos behind Fathom Farm is one of care, creativity, and connection. By cultivating blooms in a way that enriches the soil, supports pollinators and other creatures, and minimizes waste, I ensure that each stem carries a legacy of care for both people and planet. I strive to always build up, never tear down, and work to improve on these processes season by season. Through the sustainable cultivation of quality cut flowers, arranging them artfully, and offering them to you, I invite you to participate in this spirit of care as well; for yourself, for others, and for the natural world.
