Who is Fathom?

My name is Lorraine, and I am the farmer florist behind Fathom Farm. I began dreaming that I could orient my life toward flowers while commercial fishing in Southeast Alaska in the summer, and working in restaurants in the winter. Although I loved my time at sea and in hospitality, the soil and everything that grows out of it have always held my attention.

The groundwork was laid in 2023 for an experimental first season. How many flowers can actually be grown on an urban lot in Bellingham, Washington? A great many, it turns out. A few years and the birth of our sweet son later, I’m working to balance increased flower growing capacity, floral design for weddings and bouquet subscriptions, and raising a busy toddler! My son gets to experience the magic of flowers while I build a strong local business, and it’s all just a beautiful space to dwell within.

Ultimately, the ethos behind Fathom Farm is one of care, creativity, and celebration. By cultivating blooms in a way that enriches the soil, supports pollinators and other creatures, and minimizes waste, I ensure that each stem carries a legacy of care for people and planet. I strive to always build up, never tear down, and work to improve on these processes season by season. My designs are creative snapshots of moments in time; flowers are worthy of celebration in their own right, but are also observers of your celebrations when you choose to bring them into your life. Through the sustainable cultivation of quality cut flowers, arranging them artfully, and offering them to you, I invite you to participate in Fathom’s spirit of celebration and care; for yourself, for others, and for the natural world.
